Avantis

The name “Avanti” comes from the Italian word for forward, as in to go forward. Founded in 1975, the Avanti Team is a distinguished student service organization that assists new students to The University of Alabama in moving ahead with higher education aspirations. Well-acquainted with UA’s academic programs and co-curricular opportunities, the Avanti Team provides essential support to incoming students and welcomes high school groups to campus for large-scale recruitment events.

University Programs Team Member

University Programs team members have the opportunity to be the voice of a student body of over 38,000 students by planning and executing events that are innovative, collaborative, interactive and provide the student body with new event experiences. Now more than ever, we are seeking students to join our team who are passionate about creating engaging and meaningful experiences for all UA students. Positions posted are for Brand Ambassadors, Graphic Designers, Photographers, Videographers and Event Planners/Programmers. These are paid involvement opportunities.

Service & Leadership Team Leaders

The Center for Service and Leadership (CSL) Team Leaders positions include: Al’s Pals, Beat Auburn Beat Hunger, Beyond Bama, Habitat for Humanity, Serving Bama, University of Alabama Dance Marathon, and Bama Year One. Each CSL Team Leader (TL) oversees a specific area within their focus area. TL’s are directly responsible for coordinating events, promoting awareness and soliciting volunteers for their area. The Assistant Team Leaders (ATL) along with the Team Leader will serve as a Community Action Team.

BRIDGE Builders

The BRIDGE Builders are a team of male students of color who help the Office of First Year Experience conduct the BRIDGE program for first-year, men of color. The Builders are a team of sophomore-junior level students who help BRIDGE participants to construct their path at UA. These leaders have a primary role of connecting participants to the UA student experience and facilitating activities and dialogue among participants during the program. The BRIDGE Builders offer their personal insight into what it means to be a student at UA, live by the Capstone Creed, and serve as a role model for BRIDGE participants.

FYE Peer Leaders

Peer Leaders are upperclassman student leaders who serve as mentors and role models in first-year student courses (compass courses). Peer Leaders are paired with a University faculty or staff member, teaching a variety of first-year courses. These courses (i.e. BCE 101, CIS 100, HES 100, NUR 102, AS 101) are designed to help first-year students adjust to the University, develop a better understanding of campus resources, and acquire essential academic success skills.

Lucy’s Legacy Mentors

The Lucy’s Legacy Mentors are a group of Sophomore-Senior level women who help the first-year participants in Lucy’s Legacy in their academic and social transition to UA. Lucy’s Legacy is a living-learning community for women in the first year at UA. The Lucy’s Legacy Mentors have a primary role of connecting participants to the UA student experience and facilitating activities and dialogue among participants during the academic year. The Lucy’s Legacy Mentors offer their personal insight into what it means to be a student at UA, live by the Capstone Creed, and serve as a role model for Lucy’s Legacy participants.

Bama Transfers Mentors

The Bama Transfer Mentors are a group of students who have been at The University for at least one semester and support new transfer students each semester. Through the Bama Transfer Mentors Program, new transfer students can learn about campus resources, involvement opportunities, and gain insight into the UA transfer student experience.

New View Mentors

New View Mentors are a group of Sophomore level out-of-state women, who help the first-year participants in New View in their academic and social transition to UA. The women in the New View program are first-year, out-of-state students. The New View Mentors have a primary role of connecting participants to the UA student experience and facilitating activities and dialogue among participants during the academic year. The New View mentors offer their personal insight into what it means to be a student at UA, live by the Capstone Creed, and serve as a role model for women in New View.

Summer Peer Advisors

Capstone Center for Student Success (CCSS) Peer Advisors (PAs) work alongside CCSS Academic Advisors during Bama Bound orientation to prepare new freshmen for their first year at The University of Alabama. PAs develop leadership and mentoring skill sets while helping introduce new UA freshmen and their families to the Capstone Culture. PAs are assigned to an Academic Advisor and serve in a support role during Bama Bound. PAs present information to new freshmen and their parents, conduct tours of CCSS, and answer questions related to UA, general advising, and other CCSS services. PAs will work 20-25 hours per week during May-July 2021 and are expected to be present for all Bama Bound sessions.
