Mission Statement: The Office of Student Involvement provides opportunities for each UA student to achieve personal excellence by encouraging open exploration and engagement with the campus learning environment and by fostering individual growth and development.

What Matters To Us

Through our mission of supporting student’s in their growth and exploration, we seek to engage them in capturing experiences that will ensure their success in at UA, but when they leave as well. At UA, begin your journey with a purpose in mind. Maintain balance between academics and involvement by engaging yourself in things that interest you and that enhance your academic endeavors.

Our Goal

In addition to having a plan of action for your journey, you must take stops along the way and enjoy the scenery. The following are a few practical tips for things to see or do along the way:

Leadership
Schedule an engagement consultation with the Office of Student Involvement with one of our Involvement Geniuses! During this consultation, we can discuss ways to improve your leadership skills or how to find leadership opportunities. This one-on-one meeting can be a way to catapult your experience if you are not quite sure what you want to get involvement with.
Careers
Meet with a counselor at the UA Career Center to discuss your major, available internships, or experiences that can enhance your employability. The reality is that getting involved can be a great way to gain a skill that will benefit you in your search for future employment! The Career Center can also help you such things as resume writing, interviewing, networking, and more. Visit the Career Center for more details.
Mentorship
Seek out a mentor who has been on the path that you are about to embark upon. UA has a variety of programs that can connect you with someone who can advise and support you through this journey.
Service
Gain hands-on experience serving and understanding your community. Through volunteerism, you can become engaged in your surrounding community and with your classmates. Service opens your mind to creativity, opportunity, and new possibilities. For more information on the variety of service opportunities available at UA, visit the Center for Service and Leadership.

Ultimately, with close to 600 student organizations and countless leadership opportunities, The University of Alabama offers many different ways to get involved and to connect with others on campus. Moving to a large academic institution can be a daunting transition, and managing your co-curricular activities with your academic responsibilities is just one part of the puzzle that you must master in the coming years!
